Cellular systems have evolved very quickly from mobile voice-centric circuit-switched systems to high capacity data-centric packet-switched systems providing mobile digital voice, video and data services to users over wide geographical areas. This course introduces students to the evolution of cellular technologies, the main cellular system components, operation and performance of multiple access techniques and ongoing developments in cellular systems. Students will analyze the performance and capacity of cellular systems, create a frequency plan and design indoor distributed antenna systems.
