Understand the role of a wastewater treatment plant operator, including but not limited to wastewater sources, treatment facilities, and the components and processes surrounding racks, screens, comminutors, grit removal, sedimentation, flotation, trickling filters, rotating biological contractors, activated sludge, waste stabilization ponds, disinfection and chlorination. An introduction to laboratory equipment and laboratory water testing procedures using quality assurance/quality control methods. Specific tests include; total suspended solids, total solids, volatile suspended solids, total dissolved solids, biochemical oxygen demand, and dissolved oxygen.
