Seth Potter
As a dental technologist and certified exocad trainer, Seth Potter (Dental Technology ‘15) has built a career around making advanced digital dentistry accessible to practitioners around the world. Through his company, Dental Design Services, he provides remote digital dental designs for clients across Canada, the U.S., and multiple countries throughout the Americas and Europe, completing tens of thousands of cases since founding his business in 2020. Instead of keeping his expertise to himself, Seth has chosen a different path: he teaches openly, shares freely, and has become a global resource for digital design techniques that many in the industry treat as trade secrets. His decision to make knowledge accessible has helped raise the quality of digital workflows in clinics and labs everywhere—and has positioned him as an early‑career leader whose work already stretches far beyond borders.
A shift toward digital learning and open knowledge
Seth’s journey began long before he founded his company. Growing up in Northern Ontario, he spent nearly a decade assisting his father during dental relief trips to remote villages in the Dominican Republic, experiences that strengthened his desire to work in dental care and shaped his understanding of service and access early on. After graduating from NAIT’s Dental Technology program in 2015, he joined a boutique Edmonton lab at a pivotal time in the profession—when dentistry was shifting rapidly from analog to digital. Seth not only adapted to the change; he helped lead it. He designed and built the lab’s custom PCs for the new exocad system and taught himself the software at a time when no formal training existed, laying the foundation for the remote digital practice he would later create.
A global educator building confidence, one learner at a time
Seth launched his own remote design company with a laptop, an exocad license, and a goal: to build a business he could operate from anywhere in the world. Since then, he’s supported more than 200 clients and trained dental professionals internationally. In January 2024, he led a two‑day workshop at a major North Carolina lab—his first moment realizing that he was now instructing seasoned professionals decades his senior, a milestone that confirmed the path he had carved for himself.
His desire to share his knowledge more broadly led him to start posting free educational content on Instagram. After a year of posting content consistently, his content has gotten over 3.6 million views, offering accessible tutorials in a field that has traditionally been siloed and closed off to newcomers. His nominators describe him as someone who “shares the trade secrets so all dental techs can have good results,” reflecting a philosophy that strong outcomes for patients depend on a shared foundation of skill—not competition.
That collaborative spirit is why, today, Seth’s primary focus is providing world class training to users around the world by sharing free content on social media and enrolling clients into his online academy DentalCAD Skool. When Seth started learning exocad, he did it all on his own. There were no free resources, and no one was offering coaching for how to use it, but he pushed through and learned the software, which changed the trajectory of his career. He’s passionate about coaching because he knows he can share his knowledge to help others reach their goals, offering support along the way and filling the gap that existed for him.
Still early in his career, Seth is already influencing global dental practice through openness, generosity, and the belief that high‑quality design education should be available to anyone committed to learning. His work reflects the true Spirit of NAIT: using technical skill, curiosity, and collaboration to help others grow—and creating pathways for the next generation to do the same.
