Flynn Canada Ltd. supporting roofer apprentices from many directions

For nearly two decades, Flynn Canada Ltd. has been helping build the future of Alberta’s skilled trades workforce through their support of NAIT students. Since 2008, the commercial roofing and building envelope contractor has contributed $104,250 to support student awards and participated in apprenticeship sponsorship and workforce development.

Today, Flynn’s commitment continues through a five-year, $25,000 investment in NAIT’s Roofer Apprenticeship program. The gift funds two annual student awards, recognizing third-period roofer apprentices who have demonstrated dedication and perseverance in their training.

“Supporting apprentices is really about supporting the industry and our communities,” says Yolanda Black, HR generalist at Flynn Canada. “We want to encourage more people to enter the trades and succeed.”

Flynn’s support extends beyond philanthropy. The company recruits NAIT students for co-op opportunities, sponsors roofing apprentices and hires graduates from NAIT’s roofer and glazier programs.

For Service Foreman and NAIT alumnus Kayden Price, that support made a tangible difference. “Flynn sponsored my apprenticeship and topped up my income while I was attending school, and NAIT’s program gave me the skills to advance my career. All of these things, working together, made it possible for me to be where I am today.”

Flynn’s multi-pronged approach to supporting the development of skilled workers is part of the solution in meeting the growing recruitment needs of the industry.

“Skilled apprentices are essential to Alberta’s future,” says Yolanda. We’re proud to help students continue their training and reach the finish line.”
