“Excellence grows when it is recognized and supported”

A $200,004 gift from the Samit & Reshma Sharma Foundation has established four endowed student awards for students studying in the schools of Construction and Building Sciences, Manufacturing and Automation, Media and Information Technology, and Transportation.

“We chose to establish student awards at NAIT because of the institute’s strong ecosystem and its critical role in serving Alberta’s industries and communities,” says Samit Sharma, director, Samit & Reshma Sharma Foundation. “NAIT’s strengths in the areas of construction, manufacturing, media, IT, and transportation align closely with the needs of a growing economy, and we saw an opportunity to help nurture excellence in these fields.”

The Foundation hopes these awards will motivate students to strive not only to excel in their own environments, but to reach benchmarks set by the best in the world. “Excellence grows when it is recognized and supported, and we believe this investment will encourage students to achieve their full potential while also inspiring others to give back.”

Starting in 2026, the Samit & Reshma Excellence awards will be given to deserving students who demonstrate leadership, community involvement, volunteerism or entrepreneurial activities and exceptional academic achievement. Each year, and every year after that, four impressive students can receive awards of $2,000 each.

“The generosity of the Samit & Reshma Sharma Foundation will open doors for students across so many of NAIT’s polytechnic programs,” say Jen Crothers, associate vice president and registrar. “Their support uplifts learners who lead with purpose, contribute to their communities, and strive for excellence - qualities that reflect the very best of who our students are.”

This gift celebrates the spirit of students and helps them continue growing into the skilled, community‑minded professionals our province depends on. NAIT is deeply grateful for this continuous investment and for the lasting impact it will make for current and future students.
