NAIT's Annual Hockey Draft

The World's Richest Hockey Draft (also known as the NAIT Hockey Draft) is an annual campaign that raises money to support student-athletes.

Simple rules, major impact

NAIT's Hockey Draft works similarly to any other fantasy league sports draft:

  1. Players pay their entry fee,
  2. Build their team(s),
  3. Watch their points ramp up as the season or play-offs unfold,
  4. And collect their winnings.

The World's Richest Hockey Draft boasts a $50,000 grand prize, making it the largest fantasy hockey draft prize in the world (as the name suggests). However, the impact the draft has on NAIT student athletes is the legacy we're most proud of.

Since its inception in the 1980s, the Hockey Draft campaign has raised 1.2 million dollars for student athletes.

This support for students (no matter which sport team they play for at NAIT) helps them overcome the obstacles they face during their post-secondary education.

Hockey Draft Through the Ages

For 35 years, the Hockey Draft has been part of NAIT Athletics and supported countless Ooks players. We sat down with some of the founders and past winners to talk about the history of the draft and its impact on Ooks fans, fantasy league players, and hockey fanatics across the province.

The Impact on Student Athletes

Brandon Lawson, Sarah Moorji, and Jessica Engelbrecht are three powerhouse Ook players and students who are as passionate and skilled in the classroom as they are on the field, ice, or pitch. With the generous support of donors and Hockey Draft players, they've been in the winners' circle in more ways than one.
