In a power engineering lab at NAIT, a small adjustment can change everything.
Students monitor pressure systems, track temperature shifts and watch how energy moves through complex equipment. It’s where theory becomes instinct, and where future power engineers learn to make decisions that keep critical systems running safely.
Now that training is getting a major boost.
Keyera has committed $1 million to support NAIT’s Power Engineering Technology program, strengthening hands-on training environments, expanding student awards and supporting youth engagement initiatives that introduce future learners to careers in energy.
It is the company’s first major multi-year skills growth investment and an example of its purpose in action: empowering the lives of people today to create a sustainable tomorrow.
Preparing students for real-world responsibility
Power engineering is a profession learned by doing.
Inside NAIT’s labs, students gain valuable exposure to real industry conditions, including boilers, turbines, pressure vessels and complex process equipment. They learn how energy behaves inside operating systems and how small decisions can affect safety, efficiency and performance.
Support from Keyera will help enhance these training environments and maintain the specialized equipment that makes this kind of experience possible.
For students, that means graduating with the confidence and technical judgment needed to succeed from day one.
Keyera’s investment strengthens the hands-on learning our students rely on,” says Dr. Agatha Ojimelukwe, Dean, School of Energy and Natural Resources. “It helps ensure learners graduate with the confidence and technical judgment required to operate critical energy systems safely. I’d like to extend my deepest gratitude to Keyera for creating new opportunities for students and strengthening the future of applied education at NAIT.
Investing in the next generation of energy professionals
Across Western Canada, Keyera operates the infrastructure that keeps modern energy systems moving by processing, transporting and storing natural gas liquids that heat homes, power industries and support everyday life.
Running those systems safely requires highly trained professionals.
“Well-trained talent is the backbone of a safe, reliable energy industry,” says Dean Setoguchi, President and CEO of Keyera. “Through our investment in NAIT, we’re proud to support the next generation of power engineers. NAIT plays a critical role in delivering the hands-on training and technical expertise students need, and we are helping ensure they have access to the opportunities and resources that will allow them to build confidence, enter the workforce ready to contribute from day one, and grow careers that will power our industry forward.”
Over the coming decade, more than a thousand students will train in NAIT’s Power Engineering labs. Keyera’s investment helps ensure those learning environments remain strong for every student who walks through those doors.
Showing future students where those careers can lead
NAIT launched the next phase of its student recruitment campaign, Where Employers Want You to Go.
As part of the campaign, Keyera shares its perspective with prospective students, highlighting the opportunities that begin in programs like Power Engineering.
But their commitment goes far beyond appearing in a campaign.
Through this $1 million investment, Keyera is helping ensure NAIT students have the hands-on experience and industry insight needed to power the future of Alberta’s energy sector.
Because for them, investing in training today helps ensure Alberta’s energy systems continue to run safely and reliably tomorrow.
