EDMONTON – Dr. Ray Block, NAIT’s vice-president administration and chief financial officer, will assume the role of president and CEO on an interim basis, effective Dec.16, 2019.

The announcement was made Tuesday following NAIT’s board of governors’ meeting. Dr. Block will take over from current president Dr. Glenn Feltham, who announced his retirement earlier this year.

Dr. Block, a NAIT alumnus, has been a member of the polytechnic’s executive committee since 2011. In his current role he oversees Information and Technology Services, Financial and Corporate Services, Facilities Management and Development, Human Resources and General Counsel Services at NAIT.

Before coming to NAIT, Dr. Block was vice-president finance and administration at Athabasca University. He previously held senior positions with the University of Alberta (Augustana Campus), the Alberta Mental Health Board and other public and private sector organizations. He also served as a board member of Alberta Health Services.

As well as an Honours Diploma in Accounting from NAIT, Dr. Block holds a PhD in Public Health Sciences, a Master of Agriculture in Economics and a Bachelor of Commerce, all from the University of Alberta. He is also a Chartered Professional Accountant.

NAIT has begun recruitment for a new president and CEO and hopes to have someone in place this summer.
