The largest donation in NAITSA’s history
NAIT students have voted “yes” in a referendum that would see the NAIT Students’ Association (NAITSA) make a $5 million donation to NAIT. This is the largest donation in NAITSA’s history, double a $2.5 million gift made to NAIT in 2001 supporting campus growth. It’s also the biggest gift NAIT has ever received.
The unofficial results saw 93% of votes cast for the “yes” side.
The donation will be used to centralize and expand NAITSA’s offices, services and operations; enhance the Learning and Teaching Commons; bring SMART ID Card technology to NAIT and create a $2.45 million student enhancement fund to support further campus improvements.
“This result is historic, as NAIT students have reaffirmed the special partnership that exists between NAIT and NAITSA that is the envy of the post-secondary sector in Alberta. The space will allow NAITSA to enhance its current services and add new services in the future.” said Justin Nand, NAITSA’s President.
The donation, which will be made over six years, will include $2 million to support the Centre for Applied Technologies, the largest capital project in the polytechnic’s history, which will open in September of this year. The remaining $3 million will be donated in $600,000 installments over the following five years.
“I would like to thank our students for providing their support through this transformational gift,” said Dr. Glenn Feltham, NAIT president and CEO. “It will enhance the student experience and elevate NAIT as a leading polytechnic. I would also like to acknowledge the NAITSA Executive Council on their leadership and commitment to NAIT.”
