Student team wins eight gold medals - more than any other team - at Emirates Salon Culinaire 2018
Culinary Team NAIT returns from the Emirates Salon Culinaire in Dubai with a total of 15 medals, including 8 gold, 6 silver and 1 bronze. The students competed against professional chefs from around the world at one of the biggest culinary contests in the Middle East.
The competition, which ran from Feb. 18 to 22, is a series of tests open to professional chefs, with both individual and team components. Competitors are judged by a panel of 30 international chefs on their kitchen skills and creativity as well as the dishes’ taste and presentation.
Nine NAIT students competed, accompanied by two coaches and the team’s manager. This was Culinary Team NAIT’s best-ever result at a competition, and the best showing of any team at the competition this year.
- Members of NAIT’s culinary team included nine second-year students; eight in the Culinary Arts program and one in the Baking program.
- Team members were selected following a cook-off competition at NAIT.
- For the competition, the students had to prepare dishes using chicken, beef and fish.
Vinod Varshney, NAIT Culinary Arts chair and team manager
