NAIT will honour the legacy of residential school survivors and the memory of those who never returned home with a flag lowering ceremony on Friday, September 27 on NAIT’s Main Campus.
The ceremony will begin at noon at NAIT’s Flagpole Plaza with several speakers reflecting and acknowledging the impact of residential schools and honoring the generational and inter-generational survivors and those who did not make it home. A moment of silence will follow the flag lowering.

The flagpole plaza is located at the corner of Princess Elizabeth Avenue and 106 Street
The flag lowering ceremony is part of a series of events NAIT is hosting Sept. 26 and 27 in recognition of Orange Shirt Day and the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. A multimedia exhibition about residential schools and drop-in smudging ceremonies in Nîsôhkamâtotân Centre will also take place. Additionally, ShopAtNAIT will be selling orange shirts, with proceeds benefiting the Orange Shirt Society.
The reflection events are a key part of NAIT's efforts to foster understanding and reconciliation within the community and reflects the polytechnic’s commitment to education and remembrance, ensuring that the stories of residential school survivors are honoured and remembered.
NAIT will be closed on Monday, September 30th in observance of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
