Online banking

Apprentices, Open Studies and Continuing Education Students

Online banking is not an accepted payment method as fees are due immediately. Other options are available.

You can transfer money from your bank account to NAIT using the same process as paying bills through the internet. To set this up, contact your bank directly.

Bank transfer payments take up to 5 business days. Confirm processing times with your bank to make sure NAIT will receive the money before the deadline. Do not pay through online banking if there are fewer than five days from the tuition deadline, as you may be dropped from your program or courses because of late payment.

How to pay tuition by online banking

  1. Login to online banking.
  2. Go to the category within your account where you pay a bill.
  3. Add NAIT/Northern Alberta Institute of Technology as a “Bill Payee” on your account.
  4. Use your NAIT student ID number as the account/invoice/billing number (for example, 200333888).
  5. Some banks require a 10-digit number for this step. In this case, add a zero to the beginning of your student number (for example, 020033888).
  6. Follow your bank’s instructions to complete the payment.
  7. Record any reference or confirmation numbers for your records.

Apprentices

If you're applying for full-time funding through Canada Apprentice Loan

The funding will need to be remitted directly to the apprentice (you!). You are responsible for making full payment to NAIT at the time of registration.

If you're applying for full-time funding through Alberta Student Aid

If you have been approved for Alberta Student Aid, your tuition fees will be paid directly to NAIT. Only students who have an amount paid directly to NAIT will have a sponsorship code. If you are unsure if you have a code, contact the Student Service Centre to find out.

To view the Sponsorship Code on your account

  • Login to your MyNAIT Portal.
  • Under My Accounts, select Fees & Payments. Select Holds & Funding.
  • The Sponsorship Code should appear under the category "Items".
  • Click on the Sponsorship Code for the appropriate term (for example: Winter 2018), and confirm the following information:
    • Start Term: You should see the upcoming term (for example: Winter 2018).
    • Reason: You should see “Student Loan Funding”
    • Amount: The amount listed is the amount that NAIT will be receiving from Alberta Student Aid to pay for your tuition and fees. This amount should match the amount you currently owe for the term.

If all the information above is correct and all of your fees are covered by the amount listed in your Sponsorship Code, please do not pay. Any refunds for overpayment will take at least 6 to 8 weeks to process after NAIT has received your student aid payments.

It takes several weeks for NAIT to receive and apply the funds from Alberta Student Aid to your account. Until then, your account will show this amount as an overdue charge. This is normal and will not have a negative impact on you as long as your Sponsorship Code is correct.

If you do not see a Sponsorship Code 2 business days before the tuition payment deadline or if you have any questions about the information in your Sponsorship Code, please contact us.

If no funds are paid directly to NAIT, you will be responsible for making the full payment.

Degree, Diploma and Certificate Students

If you're applying for full-time funding through Alberta Student Aid

NAIT will begin to confirm registration with Alberta Student Aid 30 days before your program start date. The confirmation of registration process will create a Sponsorship Code for your NAIT account. To view the Sponsorship Code on your account

  • Login to your MyNAIT Portal.

If you're applying for part-time funding through Alberta Student Aid

If you would like to use your student aid funding to pay for your tuition, you must bring your Certificate of Eligibility* to the Student Service Centre by the tuition payment deadline date. If the approved amount of your loan is less than the amount you owe for the term, you must pay the differential amount by the tuition deadline.

*The Certificate of Eligibility is a 4-page carbon copy form that Alberta Student Aid will mail to you once your funding application has been approved.

If you're applying for funding through Out-of-Province Student Aid

Once your funding application has been approved, please submit your funding approval letter to NAIT before the tuition payment deadline in one of the following ways

  • Bring a copy to the Student Service Centre on Main Campus
  • Email financialaid@nait.ca, including your NAIT student ID number. (Please note: It may take up to 10 business days to process requests submitted via email during peak periods such as August and December.)
