Note: Tuition cap does not apply to most programs in the Spring and Summer terms.
International student tuition fees increased in 2017; however, students who began their program before the increase were permitted to continue under the old rates, within reasonable limits.
For more information please read about Grandfathered International Tuition Rates.
The following program fees apply to international students who applied to the 2018-2019 Academic Year
Tuition for Open Studies is based on the credit value of each course you are enrolled in.
International student tuition for students who will commence
their studies in Open Studies in Spring 2017 and enrol after February 15, 2017
In addition to tuition, there are other fees associated with taking Open Studies courses. You may be eligible to be exempted from some of these fees. See the following tables for details.
Online courses are exempt from this fee.
This fee is only assessed in the Fall and Winter terms. Your enrolment credits must be a minimum of 9 credits to be assessed this fee.
Tuition and fees for Continuing Education courses and programs vary and are due when you register.
Note: If your employer is paying your tuition or fees, you must fill out a Continuing Education Registration form and include it with the purchase requisition.
If you are an international student enrolled in a course that runs for 20+ hours, you must pay the domestic tuition plus an additional fee equal to 3.15 times the domestic rate. This surcharge does not apply to courses taken as part of our English as a Second Language (ESL) program.
Please note: As per Alberta Advanced Education, International students in Alberta are permitted to enrol only in post-secondary programs and courses that are approved by the Ministry or have Ministry-recognized, third party, quality oversight. Continuing Education courses and programs (non-credit), with the exception of English as a Second Language (ESL) and Academic Upgrading, are not open to international students who hold a Study Permit issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). However, students on a visitor visa (studying in courses or programs of 6 months or less) or on a work permit are eligible to take Continuing Education courses and programs.
International Students who hold a Study Permit are required by the IRCC to enrol in Designated Learning Programs. NAIT credit programs (degree, diploma and certificate programs), Academic Upgrading and the English as a Second Language (ESL) Program are considered as Designated Learning Programs under the IRCC Study Permit program.
