NEW: Apply to Graduate is now required
All degree, diploma and certificate students must now apply to graduate in MyNAIT to receive their NAIT credential and parchment.
This mandatory requirement applies to Fall 2026 graduates and future graduates — regardless of whether or not you intend to participate in your convocation ceremony. See full details below.
Applying to graduate is the final step to receiving your credential and having your parchment mailed to you. If you've completed or are close to completing your program requirements in a degree, diploma or certificate program, you’re eligible to apply to graduate.
Deadlines to apply to graduate
Apply to graduate during the application period for your expected graduation term, which is the term in which you expect to complete your final courses at NAIT. Be sure to submit your application before the deadline, as applications close before final grades are posted.
If you miss the deadline to apply, you will need to wait until the next application period to apply to receive your credential and parchment.

How to apply to graduate
Once the application opens, eligible credit students can apply to graduate through MyNAIT:
- Go to your MyNAIT portal.
- Select Open Self Service.
- Choose Academic Records tile.
- Select Apply to Graduate from the menu.
- If you're eligible, your status will display as Eligible to Apply. Change the Select to Apply to Yes.
- Only one Expected Graduation Term will be available from the drop down, as applications are only open for a single term at a time.
- Review your Legal Name.
- Review and select your Mailing Address. This is where your parchment will be mailed.
- Review and confirm the information is correct and click Submit.
Completion of an application to graduate does not guarantee the awarding of a credential.
Only students with a status of Eligible to Apply can apply to graduate. This status means you're on track to complete your program requirements by the end of the term.
- Eligible students will receive an email notification shortly after applications open.
- Students who are not yet eligible will see their status listed as Not Eligible in the application. If believe you should be eligible but cannot apply, please contact your program office.
Reviewing your personal information
When applying to graduate, you’ll be prompted to review your legal name and mailing address:
Legal name
Your legal name will printed on your parchment exactly how it appears in the graduation application. Preferred names are not printed on parchments.
Please carefully review your legal name during the application (including spelling and capitalization). If your name requires an update, you’ll need to complete and submit the formal Name Change Form (PDF) before the graduation application deadline.
Address
Your parchment will be mailed to the address selected in your graduation application.
Need to update your mailing address? Update your address in your MyNAIT Profile and then return to your application to select the updated address.
Note: Address updates may not appear immediately; please wait a few minutes and refresh the page. If the selected address is updated after your application is submitted, your graduation application will automatically use the updated address.
What to expect after applying to graduate
Your graduation status
Once the application period closes, the Office of the Registrar will review your application to graduate and your application status will be updated within a week. You can review this status directly in your application.
After final grades are posted, you will receive an email with your final graduation status decision.
To avoid delays in receiving your parchment, please ensure any outstanding fees are paid and financial holds are resolved. NAIT is unable to issue your parchment while a balance remains on your account.

|
Your credential has been officially conferred by NAIT. Your conferral (graduation) date is now recorded on your student record and your transcript reflects that your credential has been awarded.
Your parchment will be issued soon.

Graduation Denied
|
Your graduation application was denied due to unmet program or institutional requirements. If you have questions about your denial, please contact your program area.

Under Review by Program
|
Your academic record and graduation application are under review by the program area to confirm completion of all requirements.

|
Pending Final Grades
|
You have outstanding academic requirements that are currently in progress. Once final grades are issued, your academic record will be reviewed and your graduation status will be updated.

Withdrawn Application
|
You withdrew your application for graduation or are no longer pursuing completion of the program for this term.

Before applying
Is applying to graduate a new process at NAIT?
Yes! Starting with Fall 2026 graduates and beyond, all credit students in degree, diploma or certificate programs must apply to graduate — regardless of whether or not they plan to attend their convocation ceremony.
By submitting your application to graduate, this ensures your academic record is reviewed at the appropriate time so your credential can be awarded. It also confirms that your legal name and mailing address are accurate before your parchment is mailed.
How do I know if I’m ready and eligible to graduate?
You can check your Academic Progress Report in MyNAIT. This personalized report outlines your completed courses, those currently in progress and any outstanding requirements. It’s a great tool to confirm if you’re approaching program completion and ready to graduate!
Once you're eligible to apply to graduate, your status in the application will be Eligible to Apply. You will receive an email noting your eligibility shortly after applications to graduate open.
When should I apply to graduate?
You can apply to graduate during your final term at NAIT once the application is available in MyNAIT.
Be sure to submit your application before your final grades are entered and before the application deadline.

I’m still finishing courses – should I apply?
If you are in your final term and completing your final required courses, you can apply for graduation once the application opens. Your graduation decision will be confirmed once your final grades are available.
What happens if I don’t apply to graduate?
If you don’t apply to graduate, your student record will not be reviewed and your credential will not be awarded – even if you’ve completed all program requirements. If you miss the application deadline, you can apply for a future graduation period.
- If you have not enrolled in courses for 12 months, NAIT will automatically review (audit) your record and award your credential if program requirements have been met.
What if I’m not ready to graduate yet?
No problem! You can wait and apply in a future term when you’re ready to complete your program. In the meantime, you can remain active in your program and continue taking additional courses if you’d like.
What's the difference between Graduation and Convocation?
Graduation is the official process of completing your program requirements and having your credential awarded – it is required.
Convocation is the ceremony and event where you celebrate your accomplishment. Although attending convocation is optional, we encourage students to take part in this memorable milestone.
After applying
Where can I review my graduation status after applying?
Once you've submitted your application to graduate, you can check your application status by returning directly to the application. You can make updates to your application until the application closes.
Within a week after the application closes, your application to graduate status will be updated. You can view the status directly in your application.
After final grades are posted, your status will be updated with your final graduation decision. You'll receive an email indicating this graduation status.
When will I receive my parchment?
Once your application to graduate is approved, you can expect to receive your parchment in the mail within 6-8 weeks after the end of the term.
Where do I RSVP to attend my Convocation ceremony?
For information on NAIT's annual Convocation event, visit the Convocation page for ceremony details and RSVP information. Only students with an approved graduation status are eligible to attend Convocation.
Attendance at Convocation requires a separate RSVP and is not part of the application to graduate process described on this page.
Attending Convocation
Convocation is your opportunity to celebrate your accomplishment and walk the stage with your classmates. Once you have been approved to graduate, you’ll need to RSVP seperately to Convocation if you plan to attend the annual ceremony.
