The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) is a multi-campus institution offering hands-on, technology-based education and applied research in Applied Sciences and Technologies, Business, Health Sciences, and Skilled Trades. As of July 2009, the Fairview, Peace River, High Level and Grande Prairie campuses are no longer part of NAIT.

Accreditation

NAIT is a fully accredited post-secondary institute operating under the auspices of the Post-Secondary Learning Act, Government of Alberta, Advanced Education.

Academic Terms

The length of the various terms, including examination periods, are dependent upon the program of studies. Not all programs correspond exactly to term dates. Refer to NAIT’s program pages for exact dates of program commencement and termination. NAIT’s academic year runs from July 1st to June 30th.

  • Fall Term: Late August or early September to December – 15, 16 or 17 weeks
  • Winter Term: January to April or early May – 15, 16 or 17 weeks
  • Spring/Summer Term: May to August – 16 weeks

Notes

Implemented Academic Standing on July 1st, 2017.

Implemented H/P/F grading system in Winter 2020 due to COVID-19.  Students enrolled in programs utilizing H/P/F were not permitted to opt-in or out of the grading system.

Exceptions to H/P/F grading system: Academic Upgrading courses, courses completed prior to March 20, 2020; and programs with licensing and accreditation requirements.

This system of evaluation is applicable to those programs that have developed and implemented a unitized competency-based curriculum.

For programs using a numeric system of evaluation, the weighted average for each instructional term is calculated by multiplying course hours by course mark and dividing the sum of these by the total attempted hours of instruction.
