Course Overview

Due to the potential vulnerability of certain public key encryption methods to a quantum computer attack within the next 5–15 years, there is an immediate need for quantum-secure data encryption. In addition, Quantum Information is extremely fragile and therefore needs a specialized network (the Quantum Internet) to transmit, manipulate, and store the qubits to maintain their integrity. This 2-hour session highlights the distinctions between different quantum communication protocols, and real-world demonstrations of terrestrial (fibre, free space) and space-based (satellite) quantum networks. Discover cutting-edge encryption solutions like Post-Quantum Cryptography, Quantum Key Distribution, and Quantum Random Number Generators. You will explore the special quantum properties that make these technologies so powerful, and their current development/use cases in the field (i.e. level of maturity, expected availability). With the knowledge gained in this course, you will have insights into current quantum communication platforms and their real-world demonstrations in Canada and overseas. Please note that this course is offered by NAIT in partnership with Qubo Consulting Corp. Accordingly, this outline was created in collaboration with Qubo Consulting Corp.
