Course Overview
Disaster and Emergency Management focuses on preventing, preparing for, responding to, and recovering from specific hazard events. However, its standardized approach often fails to address isolated, marginalized, or culturally distinct communities. Participants in this course will be able to identify community resource challenges associated with effective disaster response planning. This course focuses on Indigenous and other rural/remote communities and addresses sub-groups within communities that are marginalized due to race, religion, and/or social norms.
With the knowledge gained in this course, you will be able to examine emergency response strategies unique to distinct and/or geographically dispersed communities.
