Canada’s Indigenous peoples have a proud history and a dynamic culture. If you do business with First Nations, Metis, or Inuit, it is important to recognize the historical contexts and legal and constitutional documents that inform the current state of Indigenous rights within Canada.

Examine the direction in which Canada’s federal government is moving with regard to reconciliation. Explore the Calls to Action released by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada in 2015 and their implications for Canada’s future.

Appreciate the profound impact treaties and residential schools have had in Canada’s history. Discuss Indigenous diversity and the current demographics of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit peoples in Alberta.

The knowledge you gain and awareness you develop in this course will prepare you to build strong and positive working relationships with Indigenous peoples in Canada.
