Course Overview
Go hands-on with blacksmithing by forging the primary tools used in the blacksmithing trade. Create your own punch, hammer, and tongs. Explore the basics of steel selection, tool design, and heat treatment as you develop your tools. Delve into forge welding, riveting, and other traditional joinery methods.
With the skills gained in this course, you will be able to employ the blacksmithing techniques used to produce Damascus steel, tools, wrought iron, forge artwork, and historic hardware.
Required Equipment:
- CSA approved steel-toed footwear
- CSA approved clear safety glasses
- Earplugs or earmuffs
- Welding gloves (loose fitting, gauntlet style)
- Low cost leather apron
- Natural fibre clothing that covers arms and legs
