Course Overview
Receive hands-on training to assess, resuscitate, stabilize, and transport trauma patients. Designed specifically for Emergency Healthcare providers who are first to respond to trauma patients, this advanced course teaches lifesaving skills involved in rapid trauma patient assessment and management like basic and advanced airway management, needle chest decompression and fluid resuscitation. Building on this knowledge, it emphasizes evaluation steps, sequencing and techniques for resuscitating and packaging patients.
Skills gained in this course will enable you to practice other essential lifesaving measures including spinal motion restriction, rapid extrication, short back board, helmet management, log roll, long backboard/scoop stretcher utilization, extremity immobilization and traction splint application.
The medical director grants the acceptance to the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology and any employer or prime contractor who utilizes a registered nurse with NAIT’s ITLS Advanced Provider certification as an equivalent of advanced first aid certification, subject to the following terms, conditions and general requirements.
• Registered nurses who take the ITLS Advanced Provider –
ITLS200 course are aware of this acceptance.
• Registered nurses who take the ITLS Advanced Provider – ITLS200 course are provided with a copy of this acceptance upon request.
The International Trauma Life Support for Emergency Care Providers 9th edition textbook is required for the ITLS Advanced Provider course at least 4 weeks prior to the course start date. If you currently do not have this textbook, it can be purchased at Shop at NAIT.
