Course Overview

How much is too much, or too little? Getting a handle on how much to produce is a big challenge for an operations manager. Students will learn about and discuss the many variables that must be considered when determining the design capacity or sustainable practical capacity of an organization.

Students will consider how the highest level of output can be achieved within the framework of a realistic work schedule, and taking into account the many variables of a dynamic work environment. Study topics include:

  • definition and discussion of short-term, intermediate and long-term capacities
  • level strategy and chase strategy
  • development of an “optimum” production plan
  • determine “learning curves” and their implementations

Students must bring a calculator to class.

    Prerequisite: OPMG102
