  • Degree - NAIT offers a number of business degrees and applied science and technology degrees accredited by Alberta Advanced Education.
    Applied degree programs offer a stronger emphasis on practical applications of the concepts learned in the classroom
  • Diplomas & Certificates - These credit programs take 1 or 2 years and lead to government approved and industry-recognized credentials.
  • Journeyman Certificate - Hands-on and expert-led apprenticeship and industry training for skilled trades and technology professionals.
  • Continuing Education/Non-Credit - NAIT offers a wide range of non-credit programs and courses for personal and professional development in a number of interesting and exciting fields. These options are great for people who may be working but are interested in studying as well.

Delivery Options

The flexible schedule options for this course including time of day and full/part-time.

  • Day - Courses taking place between Monday - Friday, before 5 PM.
  • Evening/Weekend - Courses taking place on weekdays from 5 PM or later, or Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Online - Sometimes called "Home Study" or "Computer-Based Learning"
  • Blended - A combination of online and in-class components.
  • Distance - Traditional correspondence format. These courses work best if you can't get to a campus or if your schedule can't accommodate fixed class times

Experience the challenging world of machine shop inspection and calibration. This program encompasses the principles of dimensional metrology, focusing on the precise measurement of machined components. Students will explore a wide range of manufacturing solutions which help industry to reach higher quality standards. Students will learn to properly select and calibrate measuring instruments and measure precise work, as typically carried out in a manufacturer's standards room or inspection department. Students will also learn the range of measuring concepts and mathematics used in the standards room environment, and will receive practical, hands-on experience. The course instructor is an ISO 9001-2015 Certified Lead Auditor, Certified Quality Technician, and Red Seal Machinist. Each module covers two days (14 hours).

Applicants who possess Journeyman Machinists or Journeyman Tool & Die Maker certification or are Graduates of the NAIT Mechanical Engineering Technology program will receive advance credit for the following three courses: MSIC101 - Principles of Measurement, Traceability and Calibration MSIC105 - Limits and Fits MSIC106 – Thread & Gauge Measurement

Career Opportunities

This program is open to all prospective students, especially those wishing to gain hands-on experience in calibration and machine inspection techniques. Machine Shop inspection personnel are in high demand and this program is well-recognized by employers. Continuing Education students will find the credential adds to their professional development, skill set and overall value or marketability as an employee or business owner.

Advanced Credit

Applicants who possess Journeyman Machinists or Journeyman Tool & Die Maker certification or are Graduates of the NAIT Mechanical Engineering Technology program will receive advance credit for the following three courses:

A NAIT Machine Shop Inspection and Calibration Certificate will be awarded upon successful completion of the required modules.
