International Student KICKSTART
Preparing students for Canadian academic success
Are you new to studying in Canada? Take part in NAIT’s International Student KICKSTART program to build confidence, connect with other students, and kickstart your cultural transition and academic journey at NAIT.
New students from different countries and educational backgrounds may encounter barriers and challenges when studying at a Canadian educational institution. The International Student KICKSTART program aims to ease international and newcomer students’ academic and cultural adjustment through two days of workshops and learning sessions. Participants will also have lots of opportunities to connect with each other during the program.
Please note that this program is different from the NAIT Student Orientation.
Who is the program for?
This program is designed for new students at NAIT from different cultural and educational backgrounds and provides them with tools to enhance their academic experience!

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the International Student KICKSTART the same as the NAIT Student Orientation?
No, they are two different programs, and we strongly recommend that students new to studying in Canada attend both. The two-day International Student KICKSTART program aims to ease international and newcomer students’ academic and cultural adjustment process.
Who is eligible to participate in ISK?
International students or students new to Canada who will begin their studies at NAIT in the Fall 2023 semester or are current NAIT students.
If you start your studies at NAIT after the Fall 2023 semester, please stay tuned for upcoming sessions of ISK. Keep an eye out for updates and emails regarding future ISK programs.
Payment methods
The International Student KICKSTART program registration fee must be paid with a valid credit card (Mastercard, VISA Credit Card, or American Express®) via the program registration page. International payments are subject to your local bank or credit card account allowance.
Is this a mandatory program? Do I have to participate in the entire program?
While the ISK program is optional, we encourage new international and newcomer students to take advantage of this opportunity for two days of enriching learning and community building alongside fellow participants. By fully embracing this experience, you will build valuable connections, gain important knowledge, and embark on a transformative journey that sets the stage for your success at NAIT.

What do I need to bring on the day of the program?

Water or a water bottle (there are water fountains on campus to fill up your bottle).

Stationaries or devices for your learning and notetaking, e.g., pens, notebooks, electronic devices, etc.
Is there an option to participate online?
The ISK program is currently offered in person only. If you have concerns about transitioning and settling into Canada and/or studying at NAIT but cannot participate in ISK due to time conflicts, please contact us to discuss how to support your academic journey at NAIT.

Will this program be offered again?
We plan to offer this program at the beginning of the Winter 2024 semester.
Will I meet my program instructors at ISK?
Program instructors will not be present at ISK.
If you have any Program Orientation specific questions, please contact your program office to inquire. Program contact information can be found on your "My Courses" page in your MyNAIT Portal. If you are starting your studies in Fall 2023, please visit the NSO page after mid-July for orientation registration links.
Will I receive any certificates or recognition for completing the program?
Students who attended all sessions on the two days of ISK will receive a letter of completion from the International & Intercultural Community Centre.
What is your refund policy?
Refund request deadlines:

A CAD $5 cancellation fee will be applied to each refund transaction.
