Meet the Team

Derek Thunder - Manager, Aboriginal Services

Derek Thunder is from Bigstone Cree Nation in Northern Alberta. He began working at NAIT’s Nîsôhkamâtotân Centre in August of 2009, and brings a wealth of experience, working with First Nations people, to his role as Manager of Aboriginal Services.

Derek is a graduate of the University of Alberta and has been a presenter to the National Dreamcatcher Aboriginal Youth Conference. He has also worked with the Canadian Indigenous Language Literacy Development Institute, the Ben Calf Robe Society and Native Counselling Services of Alberta.


Michelle Di Curzio - Aboriginal Liaison Specialist

Michelle Di Curzio has been an Aboriginal Liaison Specialist with the Nîsôhkamâtotân Centre since 2009. Michelle understands the student life cycle, which allows her to provide prospective and current students with information to support their academic success.

Michelle credits her grandfather's family for teaching her to be proud of her Métis ancestry. A graduate of NAIT's Management Diploma program, Michelle also holds a Bachelor of Human Resources and Labor Relations from Athabasca University.


Camille Louis - Aboriginal Liaison Specialist

Camille Louis is from Montana First Nation in Maskwacîs, Alberta. Camille has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art and Design from the University of Alberta. She has also worked in various roles with Aboriginal people, organizations and communities. Camille stays connected to her Cree culture and enjoys staying involved in the Aboriginal community.

Camille began working in the Nîsôhkamâtotân Centre in September of 2014, at first in Administration and then as a Service Advisor in 2015.


Dawn Lameman - Administrative Assistant 

Dawn Lameman is from Beaver Lake Cree Nation, Alberta and is a recent NAIT graduate from the Bachelor of Business Administration Management program. Dawn started at the Nîsôhkamâtotân Centre in September 2016, one year after being hired as the centre's first Peer Mentor.

Dawn is often the first person that people see when they come into the centre, and she is always very friendly and encouraging towards those she works with. She is an ambassador for NAIT who credits her student experience at NAIT for helping her reconnect with her culture.
