NAIT’s JR Shaw School of Business launches Accountant-in-Residence program

(Edmonton, AB) NAIT’s JR Shaw School of Business launches the Accountant-in-Residence program by welcoming alumnus Stephen Barkman, CPA, CA (BBA, ‘11) as the program’s inaugural appointee.  

The newly developed Accountant-in-Residence program is designed to create meaningful connections between NAIT students and leaders in the accounting field to provide mentorship and insights into industry trends and issues within the profession. 

Over the next several months Stephen will connect with current NAIT accounting students for various workshops, guest lectures and career mentorship opportunities. He will also work with NAIT instructors to promote increased collaborations between the JR Shaw School of Business and industry. 

Stephen brings over 10 years of experience to this role. Having earned his chartered accountant designation with Deloitte, Stephen has spent many years in leadership positions predominantly in real estate, construction, and oil and gas services . Currently as the director of accounting for ProCura Real Estate Services, he oversees over 45 legal entities supporting them through data analytics, risk management and strong financial information and process.  

Stephen’s appointment runs from Feb. 1 to Apr. 20, 2021.  

NAIT will appoint four Accountants-in-Residence throughout the academic year focusing on areas of expertise such as taxation, audit, financial, and management. Appointees will come from public, private and government bodies. The Accountant-in-Residence program is supported by the CPA Education Foundation.
