IPE Curriculum
The interprofessional education passport consists of a series of integrated curriculum activities throughout the length of a students’ discipline specific program. Each encounter allows students from various health care professions to learn together, enhancing patient and client care. In collaboration with industry and patient partners students will engage in team-based curriculum that is formulated from the Canadian Interprofessional Health Collaborative (CIHC) Competency Framework for Advancing Collaboration.
NAITastic IPE Kickoff
This virtual event will introduce students to the importance of interprofessional collaboration and patient safety through the lens of a true story of an Albertan man's healthcare experience. Greg Price's story will be shared via a film screening and will be followed by a panel discussion with industry experts to debrief his story and discuss the positive changes happening/needed to ensure patient safety through collaborative practice.
TeamSTEPPS
TeamSTEPPS (Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety) is an evidenced based teamwork system program developed jointly by the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to improve institutional collaboration and communication relating to patient safety.
Students will learn the strategies and tools of TeamSTEPPS and then apply them by participating in a series of simulations with other health students in CAMS.
IPE Electives
Students have the opportunity to select from a variety of engaging activities to enhance their awareness and understanding of each other’s roles and how their knowledge, skills, and abilities can contribute to a positive team environment that leads to improved patient outcomes and safety. Activities range from an interactive escape room, role clarity games night, to a mass casualty incident simulation and patient perspective sessions.
Students will receive a pre-determined number of points after participating in an IPE elective and must obtain a minimum number of 180 points for successful completion of the IPE passport.
