International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
In order to ensure NAIT students are ready to participate in our programs and succeed in the workforce, we must ensure they are comfortable receiving instruction and reading materials in the English language. We use the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) to evaluate our prospective students’ English-language proficiency.
The International English Language Testing System is trusted by post-secondary institutions, governments, private corporations and accreditation bodies around the world.
There are two types of evaluations used to determine an individual’s English-language proficiency.
General evaluation for work or immigration purposes
General evaluations assess an individual’s basic language survival skills in a broad social and educational context.
People must complete the general English language evaluation if they are going to English-speaking countries such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the United States in order to
- complete their secondary education
- look for work
- enrol in training programs
Academic evaluation for study purposes
The Academic evaluation assesses a test taker’s readiness to study or train in English at an undergraduate or postgraduate level. Admission to undergraduate and professional development programs is based on the results of this assessment.
