GEO101 Geothermal Installation
Get into geothermal technology! Mechanical system technicians, designers, engineers and others will discover the fundamentals behind ground source and water source heat pump technology. The course is delivered in an easy-to-understand format and includes a wide range of practical case studies. The course is 90% theory and 10% hands-on lab work, and includes one field trip to view working installations. Examples of study topics include:
• recent technology developments and the economics of geothermal installations
• soil and rock identification
• selecting, sizing and designing the ground source heat pump system
• HDPE pipe and plastic fusion welding
• GHEX installation procedures
• drilling, trenching and grouting practices
• practices for flushing and purging the GSHP system
• review of the CSA C448 Standard and the Alberta Building Code
To successfully complete this course, students must achieve a pass mark of 90% on the final open-book exam.
Upon successful completion of the course a NAIT certificate will be issued.
