Course Overview

Firearm barreling ensures the weapon is firing safely and accurately.

Using machining and gunsmithing equipment and tools, students who successfully complete this course will be able to describe and demonstrate skills needed to machine, turn, measure, thread, and chamber a barrel and fit it to an action. Students will develop their skills by working on their own barrel under the direction of expert instructors. This course is based on Remington 700 bolt action rifles. Students will need to provide their own barrel blank which may be available at a student discount from select retailers.

This course is part of a series of courses for individuals who wish to develop gunsmithing skills. Students will be contacted prior to the course start with specific information on materials required, arrangements for transporting equipment on campus, and required security protocols.

This course will appeal to hobbyists, machinists, gun enthusiasts, hunters, or individuals who wish to develop gunsmith skills. All participants must hold a valid Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) and provide a copy of the license upon registration.
