BIOL2330 - Animal Care and QA/QC
This course covers the elements of a quality assurance program within a laboratory environment and the basic principles of laboratory animal care and handling. Topics relating to quality assurance include accreditation and certification, documentation, and validation of methods and measurements. The animal care section of the course is based on the syllabus developed by the Canadian Council on Animal Care. Topics include the ethics of animal use, animal housing, breeding, and handling. The biology and behavior of select species in also discussed. Students will write Standard Operating Procedures, prepare control charts, and apply appropriate statistical method of analysis. In addition, students will handle animals, care for animals in a facility, and practice simple techniques including restraint and injections.
This course is available to students in the Biological Sciences Technology program. Prerequisites: COMM1105, BIOL1145, ZOGY1225.
