  • Credits: 3.00

This course provides an overview of techniques in nanobiology and emphasizes the biological impact of nanotechnology advances. Aspects of recombinant DNA technology, bioinformatics, and nanoparticle gene and drug delivery systems will be introduced. The course has a large laboratory component and promotes hands-on learning. Emphasis will be placed on application of the scientific method, principles of experimental design, and interpretation of scientific findings. In this course, we will examine fundamental principles of biology: major biological chemicals, construction of higher order structures (templating and self-assembly), energy systems, and the genetical organization of the cell. More advanced topics in bacterial growth and safety, genetic manipulation, and current applications in nanotechnology are also included.
