  • Course Equivalencies:
  • Open Studies: Not Available
  • Credits: 3.00

CHME1220 allows students to gain experience with real bench and pilot scale processes in order to learn how full scale processes operate and how they are controlled. Students will perform hands-on activities at both the NCAT Pilot Plant Lab and the CAT 17 Process Operation Lab. During this session, as part of a three or four person team, students will operate pilot plant gas processing equipment, a multi-pump pipeline system, bench scale bitumen extraction process, batch heavy oil upgrading process and thermodynamic / heat transfer equipment. Results will be analyzed using online analyzers or dedicated lab equipment such as gas chromatograph, viscometer and sulfur/nitrogen analysis. Teams will complete and submit lab assignments for instructor evaluation, indicating their understanding and proficiency of the material covered.
