The purpose of this course is to give the student an overall understanding of the pollutants present in the environment, including sources of pollutants and how they impact human health and ecosystems. The course will identify and describe methods and equipment for preventing, reducing and eliminating the emission of pollutants such as incineration, adsorption, absorption, scrubbing, separation, filtration, settling, precipitation, degradation and overall engineering design. A well rounded knowledge of the regulatory environment in Alberta as it pertains to pollutants released from industries will also be acquired through this course.
