This course will look at how wildfire management agencies across Canada deal with the wildfire threat to human values. While recognizing that wildfire plays an ecological role in vegetated landscapes around the world, we will focus on the Boreal forest in Alberta. An important component of the course will address some of the issues facing wildfire management such as aging forests, increased human presence in fire-prone ecosystems, and decreasing fire-fighting budgets.
