Over one-third of Canadians are entirely dependent on groundwater for daily use as additional demands are placed on groundwater aquifers by industrial activities including agriculture, forestry, and petroleum exploitation. Students learn hydrogeologic principles that govern the flow of groundwater to wells and how various aquifer properties are quantified by analytical methods using manual calculations and computer modelling. In an applied learning model via a dedicated field school, students engage in direct application of various testing and sampling techniques using modern hydrogeologic equipment.
