Applied Geophysics

GEOL2342

  • Requisites: This course is available to students in the Geological Technology program. Prerequisite: PHYS1123, MATH1123.
  • Course Equivalencies:
  • Open Studies: Not Available
  • Credits: 3.00

An understanding of geophysics, in relation to geological and/or geographical settings, is advantageous to characterize subsurface features frequently essential for environmental assessments and resource-based exploration. Students learn theoretical geophysical concepts, data collection methods, and interpretation techniques used in electrical resistivity tomography, electromagnetics, magnetics/gradiometry, radiometrics, seismic refraction/reflection, and microseismic surveying. Utilizing an applied learning model, students engage in direct application of many field techniques with modern geophysical equipment and software packages used in industry.
