This course provides students with an overview of the legal framework that governs resource exploration, resource development, and environmental protection in Canada. Topics include historical developments in Canadian environmental law, relevant federal and provincial legislation, and applicable regulations/directives. Federal legislation studied includes the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, and the Fisheries Act. Provincial Alberta legislation studied focuses primarily on the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act and the Water Act. Where timely and appropriate, other relevant legislation and case studies will be examined.
