Medical Laboratory Technologists use a variety of analytical instrumentation and techniques to perform analysis on clinical specimens. This course provides students with the foundational concepts used throughout all courses in the program, enabling them to analyze specimens, validate results, and troubleshoot instrumentation. Students will learn principles used for analysis of clinical laboratory specimens including: light measurement techniques (spectroscopy), enzymatic techniques, electrochemical techniques, and immunoassay techniques. Laboratory sessions will include performance of analytical techniques and use of automated instrumentation. Quality requirements of testing to ensure accuracy of results will be emphasized.
