Medical laboratory professionals are required to skillfully use laboratory equipment to carry out their day to day tasks, in addition to employing legislated and laboratory safety practices to all of their work. In this course, students will learn the theory and skills required to perform basic procedures in a medical laboratory. The course will cover safety and infection control regulations, as well as procedures and practices required to work in a medical laboratory. The course also will include reagent preparation associated with calculations and an introduction to the use of various equipment and supplies commonly found in a medical laboratory such as: microscopes, glassware, pipettes, balances centrifuges, thermal equipment, and pH meters.
