In this course students will be introduced to the importance of effective communication, stress management, interpersonal skills, scope of practice of registered medical laboratory technologists, and the legal and ethical requirements of practice. This course will also introduce students to specimen collection and handling including: Venous blood collections, capillary blood collections, and the processing of blood specimens for analysis in the clinical laboratory. Through laboratory exercises and simulation experiences, students will gain confidence in applying their knowledge and skills to real-life situations encountered in the medical laboratory industry.
