Medical Laboratory Technologists provide diagnostic information for the detection, identification, and treatment of infectious diseases. In this course, an introduction to clinical microbiology, students will learn: bacterial structure and metabolism, growth/respiratory requirements, specimen processing, colonial morphology and Gram staining. Key tests for identification and differentiation of clinically relevant Gram-positive cocci, Gram-negative cocci and fastidious Gram-negative coccobacilli will be emphasized.
