Health and safety are critical elements of the Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT) profession. Students learn how to apply safe practices to protect themselves and others. Considering patients from diverse populations, students will learn about radiation safety, infection control, transfers, and body mechanics. Students learn how to deal with emergency situations, such as shock and contrast reactions, by monitoring vital signs, recognizing symptoms of emergencies, and utilizing appropriate responses. Students will also learn to recognize the name and function of many pharmaceuticals and pieces of medical accessory equipment, such as IV lines, catheters, and oxygen therapy. The course uses a lecture and lab format.
