This course covers cadastral surveying concepts as practiced in Western Canada. A thorough review of the Dominion Lands Survey system and the third system of survey is undertaken. Property surveys for private and public lands are studied through reference to the Surveys Act (Alberta), the Canada Lands Surveys Act, and related material. Major topics include survey law, monumentation, the land titles system, and the legal description of land. The course includes theory associated with road surveys, subdivision surveys, real property reports, oilfield surveys and the theoretical position of wellsites in Alberta. The instructor and guest speakers reflect upon the practice and profession of Land Surveying in Alberta.
