This course introduces the student to the fields of remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS). Remote sensing introduces aerial photographs and satellite imagery. Topics include the geometry of the vertical photograph, determining scale, heights, areas, mapping, photo interpretation, and analytical photogrammetry. Drones, LIDAR, and 3D scanning are studied. Geographic Information Systems cover topics of data capture, geo-referencing, data structure, data quality, database, and database management systems. With the geographic information in the GIS, analysis can be completed by queries and analysis; proximity, buffer, adjacency and data mining.
