This session is for staff and instructors who are interested in enhancing their strategies to teach, support, and/or communicate with learners whose home language is not English. English as Additional Language (EAL) learners are learning how to be a student, the curriculum content, and learning English all at the same time.  The focus will be on how to effectively interact with EAL learners in a variety of educational settings.

This session is for NAIT staff, but students are welcome.

Myths and Realities of the International Student Experience

Heritage Fest

Celebrate NAIT’s cultural diversity at Heritage Fest, put on in collaboration by NAITSA and the NAIT International and Intercultural Community Centre.

Immerse yourself in a global experience by visiting booths curated and hosted by NAIT students and staff showcasing their cultures. Visit our main stage between 11:30 am and 1:00 pm for a variety of students and staff cultural performances. Join us in embracing diversity and celebrating the beautiful mosaic of cultures that make our campus' unique!

Community Drumming Workshop

Presented by: Marcus Fung

Cultures around the world have their own unique and deeply rooted expressions of song, music, dance and rhythm.

Join us for a modern-day expression of gathering in friendship using the therapeutic rhythm and in-the-moment music-making circle. In this workshop, you'll be introduced to the drum and various percussion instruments while being guided into an engaging and rewarding community music-making experience.  All instruments will be provided.

Linguistic Racism and Discrimination: What is it and Why does it Matter?

Take a Class that Includes a Clean Energy Project in Peru

Presented by: Doug McFarlane - Instructor, Alternative Energy Technology

NAIT now offers a class for students to learn international and intercultural skills, preparing them for success in an increasingly globalized world: Global Energy Issues and Intercultural Competency. The class includes classroom/online learning during the regular winter semester (January to April) and ends with a clean energy installation project in a remote community in Peru in early May.

Any full-time student at NAIT can apply to take the class.  Come to this session to learn more!
