International Peer Group
About the program
The International Peer Group (IPG) program helps new students studying in Canada to make friends, build connections, and have a great campus experience at NAIT. The program provides peer-to-peer connections to help reduce cultural transition stress for students new to studying in Canada.
Each peer group consists of 1 international peer mentor (IPM, a senior student volunteer) and 3 to 6 student mentees.
Want to get involved?
- Students who are new to studying in Canada can join as student mentees.
- Current students (both domestic and international) who have completed at least one semester of study at NAIT can join as volunteer peer mentors.

Volunteer as a peer mentor
International peer mentors (IPMs) are current students who have completed at least one semester of study at NAIT and are committed to supporting students from outside of Canada in their cultural transition journey.
Benefits of volunteering as an IPM
As an International Peer Mentor, you'll have the chance to make a real difference in the lives of students new to Canada. These students are looking for someone like you who understands what it's like to adjust to a new culture and educational system.
Here's why you should consider volunteering:
-
Help others: You'll be there to support fellow students as they navigate their cultural transition journey. Your guidance can make a big difference in their success at NAIT and in Canada.
-
Make new friends: By volunteering, you'll get to meet and connect with students from all over the world. It's a great way to expand your social circle and learn about different cultures.
-
Grow personally and professionally: Volunteering as a mentor isn't just about giving back – it's also about developing your own skills. You'll gain experience in leadership, communication, and understanding different cultures. Plus, you'll receive recognition on your official transcript for your volunteer work.
-
Receive appreciation: At the end of your mentoring duties, you'll get a special thank-you gift and letter from NAIT to show their gratitude for your commitment to helping others.
The International Peer Mentor volunteer application is now closed. Recruitment of new peer mentors typically takes place over the summer months. Check back for updates.
