geoLOGIC enhances students’ real-world skills and job prospects

Published on April 10, 2024

Recently, geoLOGIC Systems Ltd. (geoLOGIC) extended its support of NAIT's Petroleum Engineering Technology and Geoscience Technology students with a multi-million-dollar in-kind gift of geoSCOUT® software. This industry-leading software enables students to accurately and quickly retrieve, analyze, display, and report on oil and gas activity and history – providing unique and useful learning opportunities.

“We consider our partnership with NAIT to be one of the key avenues to contributing to the development of Canada’s future energy workforce,” says Sean Udell, Director of Intellectual Property at geoLOGIC. “Our gift provides access to a broad set of premium data and applications that help ensure students gain ‘real world’ knowledge and skills based on the latest information available. While we see this as good for our industry, it is especially good for the students as it sets them up for success as they graduate to start their journey on a new career.”

Negar Izadi-Najafabadi, chair, Petroleum Engineering Technology, Chemical Engineering Technology, and Geoscience Technology at NAIT, believes that the usefulness and applicability of geoSCOUT is reflected in the ever-increasing number of courses which use this software. “We are up to 15 courses in NAIT’s Petroleum Engineering Technology and Geoscience Technology programs that use geoSCOUT to inform learning.”

Larry Boisvert, instructor, Petroleum Engineering Technology and Geoscience Technology at NAIT, adds, “The value this software provides for our students is paramount to furthering their knowledge of the oil and gas industry. It brings me great pleasure to introduce students to the industry using this premier software package.”

Students often tell us that they enjoy diving deep into what the software can do and discovering not only possibilities for in-class tasks but also their future careers. “Amazing things can happen when students become comfortable navigating the tools we will be using post-graduation,” says recent grad Scott Petersen, Petroleum Engineering Technology ’22. “Not only does utilizing geoSCOUT broaden our horizons in terms of data interpretation and presentation, but it also makes us more employable. Thank you geoLOGIC for contributing to student’s learning and broadening our horizons.”
