Browse ... Stew & Bannock Monthly Events: Jan. 31, Feb. 26, Mar.27
Once per month the Nîsôhkamâtotân Centre hosts a Stew and Bannock lunch. These are networking events where staff and students can get to know each other. It is a way that we can build the community. We have service areas attend the Stew and Bannock lunches such as Counselling, Career Services, Learning Services etc., to showcase the services available to students on campus. These events also provide an opportunity for industry to attend and promote job opportunities or scholarships to the current students.
FNMI Career Fair: Feb. 28
The event's primary focus is to engage and provide First Nations (Status & Non-Status), Métis, & Inuit students with employment opportunities. Whether the student is looking for full-time work, summer internships/ jobs, or just looking to make connections with industry, this is a valuable event to attend.
Bannock Championship: Mar. 14
The Bannock Championship is a fun event for students to show off their bannock making skills! We get together for an afternoon of baking in an industrial kitchen here on campus. The participants gather at the Nîsôhkamâtotân Centre afterward where a panel of judges will decide on the best bannock based on taste, colour, texture, and shape. Afterward everyone can enjoy some baked bannock!
Honouring Your Success Year-End Celebration: Apr. 4
Honouring your success is a chance for us to celebrate all students who bring community to the Nîsôhkamâtotân Centre. We gather for a night of celebration with a meal, entertainment, and awards. NAIT previously hosted an Indigenous graduation, but this was changed to an evening of honouring all FNMI student success. To us, success can mean many different things and students can be successful before they graduate. We believe those successes should be honoured as well.
Orange Shirt Day & National Day for Truth and Reconciliation: Sep. 30
September 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. It is an important day to acknowledge and honour the generational and inter-generational survivors of residential schools and those who did not make it home.
Rock Your Mocs Day: Nov. 15
Established in 2011, Rock Your Mocs, is a worldwide event held annually in November where people wear their moccasins, take a photo, create a video or story, and upload to social media.
