Activities throughout July and August at Main Campus for young campers

NAIT’s 2016 summer camps have begun, with many running until the end of August. Campers as young as five and as old as 18 will participate in hands-on activities at the polytechnic in the areas of culinary arts, science and technology, leadership and more.

With support from The Butler Foundation, NAIT is also opening up spots in some of its most popular kids’ camps for children who have been displaced. Lunch and camp fees will be covered for refugee children who have recently come to Canada, as well as Fort McMurray residents. Spots are available in two camps: mini Ooks and NAIT’s multi-sports camps.

Here are other highlights:

  • Mini Chefs (July 4-8, July 11-15, July 18-22, July 25-29 and Aug. 8-12) and Mini Bakers (July 18-22, Aug. 8-12 and Aug. 15-19): In these camps, young bakers and chefs learn how to produce simple yet delicious items that can also easily be made at home. Half the time is spent in NAIT’s bakeries and kitchens, with the other half spent pursuing active fun in the institute’s recreational facilities. There are camps for a variety of ages, from eight to 16 years old.
  • G-Force (July 4-8): Open to girls ages 11 to 14. Campers have an opportunity to participate in activities that improve self-confidence, body image and inner strength. Highlights include kickboxing, rock climbing, self-defence, yoga and pilates.
  • Sport Olympics (July 18-22 and Aug. 15-19): Every day campers ages eight to 10 years old will participate in an Olympic team sport (including volleyball, basketball and soccer) with a tournament in the afternoon.
  • Summer Dance (July 25-29 and Aug. 8-12): In this camp, girls and boys seven to 11 years old and 12 to 15 years old learn a variety of dance moves.

NAIT Summer Camps

Media are welcome to cover summer camps. In some cases, two days’ notice may be required to give staff enough time to have parents sign consent forms.
