The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) and St. Matthew's University School of Veterinary Medicine (SMUSVM) have agreed to establish an articulation agreement, making it easier for NAIT students to study veterinary medicine in the Cayman Islands in the Caribbean.
As part of this partnership, SMUSVM will evaluate the eligibility for admission to its Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program, specifically considering current or former students of NAIT's Animal Health Technology Program. Eligible applicants must have a Grade Point Average of 2.70 or higher, and NAIT graduates should have completed their program within the last five years.
Successful applicants under this agreement will benefit from an expedited application review process, ensuring a seamless transition into SMUSVM. Additionally, they will be guaranteed an interview, qualify for a $10,000 Partnership Scholarship, and become eligible for other merit-based scholarships.

By creating a pathway for academic continuity, this agreement opens doors to a richer tapestry of knowledge for AHT students and alumni,” said Terry Schlitter, Associate Dean Academic, School of Health and Life Sciences at NAIT.
NAIT students will join hundreds of veterinary students who benefit from early hands-on training and exclusive access to small animals and aquatic reptilian care, distinct to the island and the Caribbean. Additionally, students will experience the immersive, personalized learning environment that sets SMUSVM apart from other veterinary schools; as well as a curriculum that is designed to nurture essential veterinary knowledge and practical skills.
